The short answer

How much do moving services cost in Denver?

Moving services in Denver are published at $130–$340 an hour for two to four movers and a truck, and a local two-bedroom move at $625–$2,400, with the middle of 5 sources near $1,050.

A studio or one-bedroom runs $279–$1,100 and three bedrooms $1,200–$3,600. A move out of Colorado is priced by weight and distance; moveBuddha prints $1,920–$10,880 or more for moves out of Denver.

These are ranges printed in 2026 by 6 named Denver movers and cost publishers, not our quotes. Stairs, parking and packing move the total, and a Colorado mover cannot bill more than 110% of its written estimate.

Sources and retrieval dates are listed under the cost section and in our editorial policy. Page last reviewed .

Move yourself or hire

Rent a truck, or hire Denver movers?

The money test. moveBuddha prints a two-bedroom local move at $385 with a rental truck and $962 with full-service movers. Its truck-rental range for Denver runs $172–$1,566 before your own time.

The labor test. A crew without a truck splits the difference: you rent and drive, they load and unload by the hour. Ask whose insurance covers your goods in your rented truck.

The risk test. A permitted mover carries at least $500,000 of liability cover and cargo cover. But released value pays 60 cents a pound: a 10-pound item worth $1,000 returns $6.

moveBuddha (2026-09-25); Colorado PUC Rules, 4 CCR 723-6-6008, Financial Responsibility (via Cornell LII); the $6 example is from 49 CFR Part 375, Appendix A, "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move". Retrieved 2026-10-20.

Denver's average first and last measurable snow dates, per the NWS. The 1991–2020 normal is 49 inches a season, 8.8 of them in March.

Mountain moves carry chains

From 1 September to 31 May, moving trucks over 16,000 lb must carry chains on I-70, US 285 and other mountain routes. The fine is $500.

Street space takes a week

A Denver street permit takes at least five days to review, and meter bagging should be requested a week ahead. Ask who files it.

The rules that change your quote

Six rules every Colorado mover works under

None of this is optional for the mover, and most of it protects you on moving day.

Verified

A PUC permit, printed in every ad

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission regulates household goods movers under title 40, article 10.1, C.R.S. A mover may not operate, offer to operate or advertise in Colorado without a PUC permit, renewed every year.

Ads must show "CO PUC permit no." and a physical address.

Written estimate, then a 110% cap

A Colorado mover must give a written estimate of the total cost, and the basis for it, at least 24 hours before a scheduled move, unless the move is booked less than 24 hours ahead. The mover cannot charge more than 110 percent of the estimate.

A contract change counts only if you both sign it.

A Denver permit for the truck

Denver requires a permit to park a moving truck or van in the street. Where there are parking meters you file a Parking Meter Request; otherwise a Right-of-Way Street Occupancy request. Street occupancy permits take at least five days to review.

Suburbs run their own offices; the address decides.

Before you sign

What a Denver moving estimate must show

Colorado law sets the first five. The rest make two estimates comparable. More answers in Denver moving questions.

  1. The CO PUC permit number and the mover's name as the permit shows it.
  2. The total cost and its basis, in writing, at least 24 hours before the move.
  3. The 110% cap: you cannot be billed more than 110% of that estimate.
  4. Your valuation choice: 60 cents a pound per article, or full replacement at a declared value and deductible.
  5. A signed consumer advisement and at least two accepted forms of payment.
  6. Crew size, hourly rate and minimum hours, and when the clock starts.
  7. Every extra as a line: stairs, long carry, elevator, piano, packing labor and materials.
  8. Who files the street permit, or the building's elevator and dock booking.
  9. Leaving Colorado: the USDOT number, binding or non-binding, and the rights booklet.

Questions

What people ask before they book Denver movers

How much do movers cost in Denver?

For a local move, named Denver sources print $279–$1,100 for a studio or one-bedroom, $625–$2,400 for two bedrooms and $1,200–$3,600 for three. Crews bill by the hour, so stairs, parking and packing move the total. These are published figures, not our quotes.

What do local movers charge per hour in Denver?

Denver movers print $130–$220 an hour for two movers and a truck, $170–$270 for three, and $220–$340 for four. Weekend and month-end dates cost more, and some movers add a minimum of two or three hours or a starting fee.

Do moving companies in Denver need a license?

Yes. Any mover working inside Colorado needs a household goods mover permit from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, renewed every year, and its ads must show "CO PUC permit no." Check the number in the PUC permit search. Interstate movers also need a USDOT number from FMCSA.

Can a Colorado mover charge more than the estimate?

Not by much. Colorado PUC rules require a written estimate at least 24 hours before the move and cap the charge at 110 percent of it. Changes to the contract count only if both you and the mover sign them.

Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Denver?

Yes, to park it in the street. Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure asks for a Parking Meter Request where there are meters and a Right-of-Way Street Occupancy request elsewhere. Review takes at least five days, so ask your mover who files it.

How much do long-distance movers from Denver cost?

moveBuddha prints $1,920–$10,880 or more for moves out of Denver, priced by weight and distance. MoveAdvisor prints $3,000–$6,500 to move a one-bedroom 1,000 miles. Interstate estimates must say whether they are binding and include Full Value Protection.

When is the cheapest time to move in Denver?

Denver movers and cost publishers print lower rates on weekdays, mid-month and outside May–September; moveBuddha puts the peak premium at 20–30%. Winter is cheaper but snowier: Denver's average snow season runs from 19 October to 28 April.

Is movingservicesdenver.com a moving company?

No. This site is an independent lead-generation publisher. We are still signing our first Denver movers, so a request is shared only once a mover whose PUC permit we have checked covers your ZIP and date; until then we email you and say so. We do not move, pack, store or insure anything.
